Like many…the Christmas Holidays can be tough for me…and then I remember…Jesus was born…and that brings warmth to my spirit. My mom passed during the holidays and my father was born during the holidays…I’ve learned to turn my pity party into a celebration of their lives and gratitude to God for choosing them to be my parents.
If you have parents, don’t complain about them…do all you can for them while they are here…some of us don’t have them, but sure wish we did. I talked to my mom…every day, when I could. Although I have grown children, I find myself feeling like ‘I want my mommy’ some days. Life wasn’t the same for me after losing my mom. She was my last parent and my best friend. If you’ve lost both of your parents, then you understand what I mean when I say…no matter how old you are, when you lose your last parent…you kind of feel like an orphan…you feel alone…even if you’re not really.
If you have siblings, be grateful for them…because some of us don’t have them either…I wish I did. I remember standing at the gravesite after my mom passed… thinking…wow, we are all here…me, my mom, dad and both of my brothers…but I was the only one standing. That took me down for a bit…but thank God my parents introduced me to The One that would keep me from falling.
I wanted to write that I’m not feeling sorry for myself, but as I’m writing this…I think I am. :) I have children, family and friends who bring me so much joy…but I never forget about those who aren’t as fortunate. I don’t ever forget that while I eat, someone isn’t…when I look up at my roof, while in my bed…someone is looking at the sky, while lying on the ground…when I get in my car to drive to the store…someone has to walk…when I need to talk to someone and get ready to dial…I have choices…some don’t have anything to dial and no one who will pick up. Hurt runs deep for many, during the Holiday Season.
This Holiday Season, if you’re blessed…know that you are…not in an arrogant way…but in an humble way. God uses us to bless others…allow Him to use you to bless someone who needs to see the Jesus in somebody…that’s what Christmas is really about…let Him use you to give hope and love to someone in need. See people…not through your eyes…but as God would have you see them…you’ll be surprised at what you see.
