The Problem With Dwelling In A Pool Of Anger Is…
It will drown you
I’ve written about anger on many occasions…for many years…in my blog and books and have spoken about it on my podcast
I know it well…especially silent anger…the one that occupied me for way too long
Something happens in our lives to create the anger…other things happen, to feed the anger…
If we don’t tell it…’you have got to go’…it will stay as long as we let it
It will chop on every offense…misunderstanding…or perception that it’s fed until it grows into its on personality…the angry version…and overtakes who we were originally created to be
Some versions of anger are obvious…they’ve made their way to facial expressions…tone of voice, outbursts or mayhem…on the outside
Other versions are not visible from the outside…but are in no way dwelling quietly on the inside…but show up in quiet ways in how we move or don’t move…until its silence becomes deafening…
Anger is dangerous because of its control of the one it dwells in
If there is no counter to it in the space it’s trying to occupy…
Then it knows no boundaries…is not easily contained and spreads like wildfire
It will attempt to consume all that it comes in contact with…that stands in its way
I say attempt to consume…because it can be controlled…maintained…and ultimately extinguished
What put the ‘quiet anger’ out…on the inside of me…after it took up residence for some years…was my spiritual growth
Holding things inside…and letting them fester…doesn’t work in anyone’s favor
It can slip up on you…if you’re not watchful…and can stay so long that it convinces you that it’s normal…
Or in the worse cases…it makes you believe that you can never change…the devil is a liar…don’t believe that
As a Behaviorist, I have a heightened awareness of how anger controls the movement…thoughts…and decisions of a person…
How it even affects those around the person…of whom it occupies…
They too, move differently and deliberately…so as not to become the release or outlet for the anger…
And don’t ever forget that it can be contagious…so if you’re around someone on a regular…that anger occupies…be very careful not to allow the anger of someone else…occupy you
We are human, so we will get angry at times…
But I don’t think God created us to be stuck on angry…all the time…and certainly we are to be mindful and in control of what we do when we’re angry…because anger has no power over consequences
Obviously God knows us well, as evidenced by many examples in the Bible that remind us to be slow to anger…
One of my favorite reminders is, ‘Understand [this], my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear [a ready listener], slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry. For man's anger does not promote the righteousness God [wishes and requires].’ James 1:19-20 (AMPC)
Don’t dwell in it…a pool of anger…don’t let it drown you and the ones who try to save you
Trust the One Who created you…to save you from drowning in anger…so He can use you to help save those connected to you and affected by you
Pool of anger…it’s not as deep as it seems…if you’re in it…stand up…and make your way out…and if you need some help…there’s no shame in asking for it…but there is shame in not…
The Problem With Dwelling In A Pool Of Anger Is…
It will drown you…but it doesn’t have to…
Don’t let it!
