What prayer used to be…and what it is now…to me. Growing up, every night, we got down on our knees to pray. My parent’s prayers were so long l would fall asleep, sometimes, waiting for them to finish…I didn’t understand then…but I do now! As a child, I was just praying what I was taught…to thank God for everybody and everything…ask for His blessings and protection for myself, family and friends…but first and foremost, ask for His forgiveness…at the beginning of the prayer.
Back then, my prayer life was more of a ritual…it was what I was taught to do. But at some point…I discovered the ‘power of prayer’ for myself, as the ritual became a relationship, as my communication with God through prayer grew from on my knees at the end of the day…to starting my day with prayer, followed up with meditation to clear my mind and receive whatever God puts on my heart to do or not do…prayer throughout the day and a conclusion to my day with a prayer of gratitude and thanksgiving...a whole lot more prayer than it used to be.
As I’ve gone through some ‘what in the world’ moments in my life…prayer has become my life line…it has changed my life…in it…the power of prayer…I have found myself…my strength…my purpose…my joy…my peace…forgiveness for real…and the ability to love, as God intended.
Prayer…consistently and unceasingly…really is powerful…it gives you whatever you need…sometimes the answers…other times...the strength!
