Stay in character…yours…

My mother used to love to sing ‘…like a tree planted by the water…I…shall not be moved’…

When I think back on how she sang it and how she lived…it’s obvious that she meant it…she was not playing…

The day has come that I have lived long enough…and experienced enough…to understand what she meant and why she sang it out loud with strong conviction…

Reminding herself…us…and the God she served…her commitment to…stay in character…

When we emerge from wherever we were to where we were created to be…in character…that’s our place of peace…stay in it…don’t be moved…

Don’t let anyone or anything move you outside of your character…

Our emotions can take us out and keep us out of character…

If emotion is in control…it can have us in and out of character so much…that we don’t know who we are…and neither does anyone else…

Resulting in living…being…and behaving the role of some other character that we weren’t created to be…

Here’s the thing…we have to be very careful about who’s writing the script…behind the scenes…for the character that we are displaying…

Is it the One who created us or the one who wants to destroy us…

For One…we are the character…for the other…we are playing a character…

When we play multiple characters…we become a chameleon…

We adjust the way we look on the outside to blend in…

Or display characteristics that fulfill the perception that we’ve created…or that someone else has created for us…

Being a chameleon has got to be exhausting…it’s not a role we were created to play…

No matter what character we dress up as…

It will never measure up to the character that God creates in us…our best look is the one He created for us…

And there is no role that any of us could ever play…that would yield the greatest award or reward of them all…’well done…thy good and faithful servant…’

Don’t give anyone the power to take you out of character…create one for you based on hurts, disappointment and frustration…and don’t adopt someone else’s because you think theirs is better than yours…

Be the best version of who you were created to be…be your own role…so that you can fulfill your reason for being…

This is not a play or a performance…it’s your life…it’s for real…with consequences...

Stay in it…character…the one God created for you…yours…be it…
