We do what we do…because we’ve been called to
I find that our circumstances in life…
Lead to our purpose
It’s up to us…because of free will…
How long it takes us to get there
We often become distracted…
By our own selves…or that of another
It’s like being given a map with clear directions…
But only occasionally glancing at it…
And missing some critical turns…
Or choosing to listen to an alternate version of directions…
Because it’s easier…or more convenient...
Or we just trust it...more
I remember being on a trip…driving in territory that I wasn’t familiar with…
I chose to listen to an automated version of directions…
I did not physically look at a map before leaving…
I trusted the automated system
There was a road closure that the automated directions wasn’t aware of…
On the shortcut route that it chose
There was an entire bridge that was wiped out…no longer existed
We were rerouted by the navigation system…
And found ourselves on a steep mountain…
Traveling on a narrow road…not wide enough to turn around
That called for strategic maneuvering for one car to pass another
There was mountain on one side…
Close enough to reach out and touch…
And a steep drop off on the other side…a cliff…with no barrier
I can’t ever remember being that afraid and…
Calling on Jesus more…in my entire life
God used one of my sons to keep me focused…
And he later shared how close our car was to the edge of the mountain…
He was scared too…but he never let me know…as he instructed me
God used the child…that day…to guide the parent
And I wasn’t too proud to listen
Had I used a map…I would not have taken the short route…
Instead…I would have stayed on the main highway
The shortcut became an incredibly long route that day…
But a wonderful lesson and appreciation for authentic directions…
A greater appreciation for old fashion maps…
And most of all…the greatest map of all…the Bible…
The directions it provides for our lives
Read it all…and then study it some more…and some more
Because any passages or books that we just glance through…
May have critical directions that we may miss…
Causing some unnecessary delays…
Going around the mountain…
When He has already given us clear directions
Sometimes mayhem is found in the shortcut…
But peace is found while taking the long way around
Thank God for His directions…
And protection…when we go an alternate route
