Sometimes the year doesn’t end the way you plan…
Nor does the new one begin the way you anticipated
And what is it with so many transitions from this side of Glory to the next
Or the near misses that make you realize that you could have lost a loved one
And the only explanation is that…it just simply wasn’t their time
Or perhaps God heard and granted our prayer requests for protection…
From hurt, harm and danger…those we see coming and those that are invisible
I was a caretaker for a loved one over the holidays…that was my priority
It was my assignment…the way I ended last year and brought this one in
Sometimes, without realizing it, we can take our loved ones’ presence for granted
It’s not top of mind that just because they came back after leaving home yesterday…
That they will return when they leave today or return in the same capacity
Almost losing a loved one comes with fear of what could have been
While at the same time, it comes with boundless gratitude…
That what could have been wasn’t…but instead…the gift of another chance
I am in catch up mode now, with what I intended to have done by now
But it is okay…it is a blessing to have had to get up around the clock…
To take care of my loved one…I prefer that, than the possible alternative
It’s a blessing to be a caretaker…able to be what someone else needs you to be
Sometimes the year doesn’t end the way you plan…
Nor does the new one begin the way you anticipated
But it’s okay…when you get more time with those you love!!
